EvaMobs 2nd General Meeting:
Where do we stand one year later?
On April 2-3, 2025, the EvaMobs team gathered in Zagreb, Croatia, for its second in-person General Meeting, marking a full year of progress in strengthening EU pandemic preparedness. Hosted by our partner, the Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health (IMI), the two-day event featured key research updates, discussions on immunology, and valuable opportunities to connect beyond the lab.
Reflecting on a year of progress
EvaMobs was born in a time of crisis—driven by generosity, ambition, and a shared determination to solve a problem. Project Coordinator Claudio Soares reflected on the journey so far:
"Now, as EvaMobs enters its adolescence, we are both dreaming and doing. We stand at a crossroads, making crucial decisions about the future. That’s why we gathered here—not just to celebrate our progress, but to shape our next steps. What will be our next dreams?"
Over two days, EvaMobs partners shared progress, tackled challenges, and explored solutions in key research areas, from Mob design and production to immunogenicity, toxicity, and off-target binding. The meeting also featured poster sessions, where team members engaged in lively scientific discussions over coffee, exchanging ideas that will continue to drive the project forward.
Beyond the science, the team also took time to explore Zagreb’s historic streets, strengthening collaborative bonds and enjoying the rare opportunity—yet very much needed— to connect in person.
“Thanks to Catarina Carmo (EvaMobs Project Manager), Maja Katalinic (leading researcher from WP3), and her team, this meeting was an exciting event, with many lively scientific discussions and relaxing social interactions. Having the meeting in the beautiful city of Zagreb made this event a very pleasant experience and fostered the team's cohesion!”

The road ahead
Reflecting on the project’s advancements, Claudio Soares highlighted the remarkable progress made in just one year:
"Machines have dreamed up new proteins using AI and physics. Some have been produced by bacteria, some have bound to targets, some have revealed their structure under CryoEM microscopes. Others have reached human cells—some effective against viruses, some still waiting for their moment."
Yet, the ultimate goal remains: to ensure at least one of these “dream proteins” reaches humans—curing diseases in a way that is inclusive and accessible to all.
With that vision in mind, and fueled by another productive and inspiring meeting, the EvaMobs team moves forward with renewed energy and determination towards its dream! 🚀
